Suspicious Painting: to find a painting whilst I make it. One clue leads to the next. But the inspiration does not come from within the painting alone. Clues from the subconscious, an aleatory spill on the canvas, an arbitrary moment on the street, a line in a book, a slogan in Lidl or an advert … become provisional referents for a painting. This half-light conspiring between image (painting) and non-image (dreams and everything else) is interesting. I want the paintings to look like they are re-working themselves in front of our eyes.
